Local law enforcement and IMPACT Navarro, a program of Drug Prevention Resources, will host the semi-annual Prescription Drug Take Back Event on April 29. Officers will collect unused and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Prescription Drug Drop Box Available -- At the April 27 ribbon cutting Jana Jansson, IMPACT Garland coordinator, said that this community resource has three purposes: 1) To collect excess, unwanted or expired prescription drugs that are usually kept in the home medicine cabinet where they may be accessible to others, including youth, 2) To ensure that these drugs are disposed of safely and kept out of the water supply and soil and 3) To inform the public of the dangers of these drugs when in the wrong hands.


IMPACT Cedar Hill

Agapito Chavez and the IMPACT coalition led a hugely successful Rx Take-back effort on April 30 in Cedar Hill. They collected eight boxes of unused, unwanted and expired prescriptions in less than three hours while representatives from local enforcement and the Drug Enforcement Administration oversaw the collection. The next official take-back date is scheduled for Novemer but residents can use the coalition's permanent dropbox any time.

"Alvis Reeves, director of IMPACT Navarro, announced that this drug disposal unit is a tremendous public service by P & S Pharmacy. We have been working on this project to locate one in Corsicana for the past two years. Trena Weidman, a leader in drug health, has accepted the challenge of installing one in her store. IMPACT Navarro was able to assist in this project through a grant from a local foundation. This will help make our community safer and healthier for our youth."
